CTM Trademark Renewal
To keep your trademark from expiring, it is necessary to file a renewal. A Community Trade Mark Registration has a registration period of ten years from the date of filing of the Application and may be renewed for further ten year periods indefinitely. No evidence of use is required for renewal.
A request for renewal must be submitted in writing. Payment of the renewal fee alone is not sufficient. This request must be submitted by the proprietor of the trademark or the solicitor/agent on the case if the proprietor does not have an office in one of the European Member states. Unlike the U.S., proof of use is not required in the Community.
In the Community, the cost of filing for a renewal is £350.00 plus OHIM filing fees of 1500 Euros. This renewal fee is comparable to the cost of four or five national renewal fees, but is significantly less than the cost of renewing the national registrations in all 27 countries.
